Designing Multi-access Edge Compute(MEC) Platforms

The Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC) standard of European Technical Standards Institute (ETSI) describes a new ecosystem that enables application developers, content providers and 5G network operators to deploy predictable cloud-computing capabilities at the network’s edge, using Consumer Off The Shelf (COTS) hardware in an Information Technology (IT) environment. As the industry moves into subsequent phases of the 5G rollout, MEC is considered as a driving force as operators face the need to deliver a greater number of new services, with, lower latency and strict Quality of Service (QoS), at higher speeds, over more endpoints than ever before.
